Tyne Gangway (Structures) Ltd is delighted to announce we have been awarded “granted” status by ORE Catapult’s Fit 4 Offshore Renewables (F4OR).

We have spent the last year improving our business in line with the F4OR programme and the benefits of doing so have been invaluable. The programme has given us greater sector knowledge and understanding of what it takes to work within the growing offshore wind industry, and we continue to ensure we are in a position to supply to this sector in line with the required standards.

All being said, we could not have achieved this without the dedicated support of our team, so thank you to everyone at Tyne Gangway, and special thanks to Nigel Goodrich, John Best, ORE Catapult, Opergy, and the F4OR teams for their support and guidance.

Tyne Gangway believes in passing on its knowledge to our future generations and continuously recruits new and young talent on its apprenticeship programme. We recently welcomed Jack, Adam, Marcos, and Owen who are all great new additions to our team, and we look forward to seeing them flourish in their careers.

Tyne Gangway (Structures) Limited is proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which supports those who protect our nation, veterans, and their families.

The covenant is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families; that they should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives.

It focuses on helping members of the armed forces community have the same support as any other citizen, spanning education, housing, starting a career, access to healthcare, financial assistance, and more.

Several of our employees have UK Armed Forces affiliations, including myself, whose husband is a former field and staff officer. We see the contribution of our Armed Forces in their worldwide deployments, but during the Crisis, we have also seen their contribution to our daily lives – driving ambulances, administering tests, constructing temporary hospitals, etc. Tyne Gangway supports and implements the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant – serving our Armed Forces as they serve us.

Allan Hills, Tyne Gangway’s Storeman & Logistics Co-ordinator said: “As a veteran, it’s good working for a business that supports servicemen and their families”.

Congratulations to our newly qualified fabricators and welders, who have recently completed their apprenticeship programme. All passed with flying colours and are ready to embark on the next phase of their careers working at Tyne Gangway.

When asked how they feel about their recent success:

Brent Whitlie “I feel that completing my apprenticeship in Fabrication and welding is a positive milestone to achieve in my career”.

David Nash “It has been a good journey, learning new knowledge and skills, and working with skilled mentors to enhance my practical fabrication and welding skills”.

Alex Tibbs “I feel blessed that I have been given the opportunity to complete my apprenticeship in fabrication and welding at Tyne Gangway. I am looking forward to progressing my career”.

Richard Herron, our Quality, Health & Safety Manager, said “all three apprentices have put in maximum effort and hard work during their apprenticeship linked to TDR Training, and they are valued members of the Tyne Gangway team. They are now ready to continue the legacy, being some of the youngest fabricators and welders within the workshop”.  “Good work, gentlemen”.

It was also good the hear from Bryan, TDR training “well done to Brent, Alex, and David in completing their Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships with Tyne Gangway. It’s been a great experience for TDR Training to work alongside such a supportive company and one that values the learner journey”.

We support and value our people in their career development and are currently training 4 welding & fabrication apprentices and 1 apprentice draughtsman.

We recently caught up with them to ask what they enjoy most about working for us:

Alex said, “Completing an apprenticeship with Tyne Gangway opens many career pathways, marine, and structural access, whether it be on-site, onshore, or offshore”.

Brent said, “It’s a unique and practical trade”.

David said, “I enjoy the variation and challenges that come with each job”.

Kieran said, “having the opportunity to learn the skill of welding and building bespoke structures. I hope to progress within the industry i.e., gain a range of welding certificates”.

Jack, who has recently changed to become the apprentice draughtsman, said, “I really enjoy the ‘hands-on’ aspect of the job, I get a sense of satisfaction seeing the jobs completed”.

Their peers have reviewed each apprentice, and all received positive feedback on their work ethics, skills, and knowledge levels. This is a very beneficial endorsement to receive within the work environment.  They carry out learning on the job and their ‘off the job’ theoretical studies on-site, with the support of their line management and TDR Training. Each apprentice is dedicated and endeavours to complete assignments within the required timescale.
